Your Pain Surgery - what you need to know
What do I need to do before Surgery?
The Brookings Ambulatory Surgery Center staff will call you a few days prior to your surgery for medical information and history. Please have a complete list of current medications. This pre-operative call will take approximately 10-20 minutes.
If you have not been contacted by 4:00 p.m. on the day before surgery, please call us at:

unless otherwise directed by one of the Surgery Center staff members, it is absolutely necessary that you do not have FOOD, WATER OR OTHER FLUIDS, GUM, or HARD CANDY after midnight the night before surgery.
Avoid alcoholic beverages and refrain from smoking for 24 hours before and after surgery.
Remove nail polish and do not wear heavy make-up.
If you develop a cold, fever, rash, cough, or sore throat before your scheduled surgery, please contact you physician.
Take a shower or bath and wash your hair either the night before or the morning of your surgery.
If you wear glasses or contact lenses, please bring a storage case for their safekeeping.
Please do not bring valuables, jewelry, or large amounts of money with you.
Wear comfortable clothing.
What happens on the day of my Pain Treatment Surgery?
Once you have registered, a staff member will take you to a private pre-operative room. An adult member of your family or a friend may wait with you until it is time for surgery.
We will provide you with a patient gown, robe and slippers. A member of the Anesthesiology staff will meet with you to discuss the type of anesthesia you will require for your surgical comfort.
Your family will have the opportunity to visit with your doctor following the surgical procedure.
